Education

At Evangelical Lutheran Church we focus on relational ministry through youth classes, mentoring and service to others. During the school year our morning classes run from 9:30 am to 10:20 am. Adult bible study is provided through various circle groups and special community workshops are held at various times throughout the year.

Sunday School Classes

Elementary age (3 yrs.-1st) – gather together to sing fun worship songs and conclude with small group lesson time. Rotations may include crafts, story, movie, and kitchen. Small groups: 3-4 yrs., 4-5 yrs.(PreK), Kindergarten and 1st Grade. Contact: Brenda Martin or Cheryl Mortvedt

Intermediate age (2nd-5th) – gather in the chapel to sing with Shine Team and then break into classroom lesson time.  Contact Kim Guenther or  Diane Rothamer

Sunday Morning Youth Groups

6th Middle School Group – Led by an adult leader (Diane Berg), this class has a little of everything blended together. (“Connect” Sunday School Materials, , Short video messages, Service Projects, Acolyte Training) This group starts to Acolyte in November during Worship services.

7th-8th Middle school Group – If you’re not involved as a Sunday School Mentor, join us for donuts, games, short video messages and group discussion with adult leaders (Shelly Murvine, Amy Thompson, and others.). 7th-8th also attend Wednesday Night Confirmation with  Pastor Twiton, Shelly Murvine, and small group guides.

9th-12th High School Group – If you’re not involved as a Sunday School Mentor, join us for coffee, short messages and group discussion with your peers and adult leader (Chris Murvine ). In addition, help lead and plan two to three weekend Service Projects.

Youth Service Opportunities During Sunday Morning Classes

7th-12th grade can participate in one of the areas below and receive Silver Cord hours for High School or service requirements for Confirmation class.

Sunday School Mentor – Help or teach younger kids during Sunday School. Volunteer for 4 weeks on/4 weeks off, half a year or all year. Fill out youth interest form in office.

    • Teacher Helper (3 yrs.-1st grade) OR substitute helper
    • Shepherd (2nd-5th grade) OR substitute shepherd
    • Teacher/Assistant Teacher (2nd-5th) OR substitute

Shine Team – youth only band that sings and plays “camp-like” worship songs and other fun music for Sunday School in the chapel.

Youth Service Opportunities During Worship

Greeter – Welcome ELC members and visitors before services near church entrances. Pick your times. Fill out youth interest form in office.

Usher – Join one of the Usher Teams and help out during 1st or 2nd worship services, about once per month. This team-based service opportunity offers flexibility for youth with sporting-event conflicts. Fill out youth interest form in office.

Worship Arts

Do you have a heart for music or technology? Join others who have similar interests on these teams.

Praise Team – youth and adult band that sings and plays contemporary music at 2nd service, for Community Festivals, Church Picnics, and Christmas Eve (5pm). Contact: Gary Doty

Youth Praise Team – youth only band, that sings and plays occasionally during 2nd service and Sunday night service. This group focuses on more up beat rockin’ Christian and contemporary music. COMING SOON. Contact: Gary Doty

Shine Team – youth only band that sings and plays “camp-like” worship songs and other fun music for Sunday School in the chapel.

Senior Choir – youth and adults sing traditional worship music for 1st service and Christmas Eve. Contact: Diane Dangerfield

Bell Choir – youth and adults play the bells occasionally during 1st and 2nd services. No experience necessary. Contact: Sarahelizabeth Baguhn

Audio/Visual Tech Team – youth and adults set-up and tear down equipment and A/V System for worship services and festivals. New A/V system coming soon. Contact: Gary Doty
