Practicing Forgiveness — This week at ELC

June 27, 2014 by john

forgive

The practice of giving and receiving forgiveness is central to Christian faith. Today we look at how this practice creates harmony both within ourselves, and in our community.

Worship this weekend – Special note – Because of the forecast of hot, rainy, and humid weather, all worship services this weekend will be held in the (air-conditioned) fellowship hall. Please Join Us!!

June 28 &  29th – Practicing Forgiveness

Saturday – 5:00 p.m.

Sunday – 8:30 a.m. Traditional

10:30 a.m. Contemporary

Questions for the week:

  • Who have you found it difficult to forgive?
  • What in your own life is in need of forgiveness?
  • Where can you find the strength to give and receive forgiveness?

Hymn of the week – Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea, Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

I am weak, but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long As I walk, let me walk close to Thee

Devotions for the week

Monday – Psalm 112:4; Acts 5:19

Jesus, you are the light that overwhelms every form of darkness. Today your grace can overcome the darkness in my life.

Tuesday – Psalm 71:20; 2 Timothy 1:10

Even in thick darkness, the light of your love shines with the hope and promise of new and better days. Help me use the strength you give me today.

Wednesday – Proverbs 7:2; 1 Timothy 4:16

Forgive me Lord when I focus on personal liberty at all cost and fail to see that real freedom was won for me on the cross

Thursday – Isaiah 60:18; Revelation 21:4

God of peace, teach me to love peace. Guide my heart that I might pray, speak, and work for your peace.

Friday – Zechariah 6:15; Ephesians 2:22

God of all people, I praise you because you break down the barriers of hatred and mistrust by the spirit of Christ. Help me to see you in the faces of strangers.

Saturday – Psalm 19:14; John 4:23

Dear God, how easy it is for me to hear your word without listening, to speak       without thinking of your will, and to take pleasure in mean spirited thoughts about people you love.
