“Who me?” — This week at ELC

September 29, 2017 by john

Exo 3The God of enslaved Israel is about to make good on an ancient promise, and has a special job for his servant Moses. This would-be hero, however, is less than enthusiastic.  God still calls us to speak God’s Word of freedom, forgiveness, and healing.  How will you answer God’s call?

Worship this week with Holy Communion

Saturday – 5:00 p.m. in the chapel

Sunday – 8:30 a.m. Traditional Worship

9:30 a.m. Sunday School

No 10:30 a.m. Worship this week — God’s Work/Our Hands volunteer projects.

Devotions for this week:

God’s Name Is Revealed, Exodus 2:23-25; 3:10-15; 4:10-17
October 1, 2017

SHARE:   What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?

READ: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding

Sunday, Exodus 2:23-25; 3:10-15; 4:10-17, God’s Name Is Revealed

Monday, Exodus 6:28-7:7, Moses and Aaron Obey God’s Commands

Tuesday, Exodus 12:1-13, The First Passover

Wednesday, Exodus 12:29-42, Death of the Firstborn

Thursday, Exodus 13:17-22, The Pillars of Cloud and Fire

Friday, Exodus 14:1-25, Crossing the Red Sea

Saturday, Exodus 14:26-31, Pursuers Drowned

TALK:  Consider some of these ideas:

But Moses said to God, “If I come to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” (Exodus 3:13-14)

The God of enslaved Israel is about to make good on an ancient promise, and has a special job for his servant Moses. This would-be hero, however, is less than enthusiastic.

  • Tell of a time you had to wait a really long time for an answer from God. What happened when the answer finally came?
  • If you are still waiting, what answer are you hoping for?
  • How do you respond to God’s call to intercede for God’s children in a time of need?
  • Are we willing to speak up, even if it puts us at risk?

PRAY: Holy God, your promises stand fast forever. Make us bold to trust where you lead, and put our unfailing hope in your faithfulness. In the name of Jesus, Amen

BLESS:  May God answer your prayers. Amen.
