The first of his signs — this week at ELC

January 12, 2018 by john

When Jesus is present, there is not only enough, but plenty of the very best. How often do we live in fear of scarcity, when God is present in both our times of trial and celebration?

Worship this week:  Saturday – 5:00 p.m. in the chapel

Sunday – 8:30 a.m. Traditional Worship

9:30 a.m.  Sunday School, Adult Bible Study, Fellowship

10:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship

Devotions for this week:

Wedding at Cana, John 2:1-11  — January 14, 2018

SHARE:   What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?

READ: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding

Sunday, John 2:1-11, Wedding at Cana

Monday, John 2:12, Jesus Goes to Capernaum

Tuesday, Psalm 104:1-9, God the Creator and Provider

Wednesday, Psalm 104:10-23, God the Creator and Provider

Thursday, Psalm 104:24-26, God the Creator and Provider

Friday, Psalm 104:27-30, God the Creator and Provider

Saturday, Psalm 104:31-35, God the Creator and Provider

TALK:  Consider some of these ideas:

Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. (John 2:11)

Jesus and those close to him find themselves at a wedding where the hosts are soon to be disgraced by a shortage of wine. But surely this matter is too trifling for the attention of the great teacher? Don’t be so certain.

  • Tell of a time you were challenged to act before you were ready. Did you act anyway? How did it go?
  • Wonder: Did Jesus have fun at the wedding? Did he dance? Did he laugh?
  • Celebrate your nearest milestone with cake. If you don’t have one coming up, celebrate anyway!

PRAY: God of celebration, you are our hope when disaster seems imminent. Give us the calm confidence which your own mother showed, knowing that things are safe in your hands. Amen.

BLESS:  May God bless all your milestones. Amen.
