A day for celebrations – this week at ELC

May 10, 2019 by john

God’s vision of the kingdom is much bigger than the one Peter had imagined.  Perhaps our vision is still too small. Join us for worship this week.

Worship this week:

Saturday – 5:00 p.m. Modified traditional worship with Holy Communion

Sunday – 8:30 a.m. A special “Worship Through Music” Celebration featuring the Senior Choir

10:30 a.m. Contemporary worship with Holy Communion, with Blessing and Blanket ceremony for high school graduating class.

Devotions for this week – Peter’s Vision

SHARE:   What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?

READ: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding

Monday, Acts 10:18-23, Peter’s Vision

Tuesday, Acts 10:24-33, Peter’s Vision

Wednesday, Acts 11:1-18, Peter’s Report to the Church at Jerusalem

Thursday, Acts 11:19-30, The Church in Antioch

Friday, Acts 12:1-19, Peter in Prison

Saturday, Acts 12:20-25, The Death of Herod

Go to clergystuff.com/daily-devotions for devotions on the daily readings.

TALK:  Consider some of these ideas

The voice said to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you must not call profane.” (Acts 10:15)

The fledgling church of Christ is finding its feet, to be as diverse and inclusive as Jesus himself. But humans sometimes need more time to catch up with God’s radical vision.

  • What is considered taboo in your community? What has become mainstream that you wish was still taboo? Why?
  • How can you honor God in a new way this week? What can you do or refrain from doing to respect God?

PRAY:  God, you have sanctified all things by your grace, and nothing is unclean to you. Open our minds to your vision of inclusion that we might mirror your mercy in the world, for the sake of our loving savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

BLESS:  May God guide you in your discernment. Amen.
