Earthly and Heavenly Sanctuaries — this week at ELC

August 2, 2019 by john

In Jesus, God’s presence among us is no longer shrouded in mystery, nor do we need to continue to appease God by sacrifice. Instead we know forgiveness, grace, and mercy that is ours in Jesus Christ.

Worship with Holy Communion this week:

Saturday – 5:00 p.m. – Modified traditional worship

Sunday – 8:30 a.m. – Traditional worship

10:00 a.m. – Contemporary worship

Devotions for this week: Earthly and Heavenly Sanctuaries

SHARE:   What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?

READ: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding

Monday, Hebrews 11;17-22, The Faith of Abraham

Tuesday, Hebrews 11:23-28, The Faith of Moses

Wednesday, Hebrews 11:29-40, The Faith of Others

Thursday, Hebrews 12:1-6, The Example of Jesus

Friday, Hebrews 12:7-13, The Example of Jesus

Saturday, Hebrews 12:14-17, Rejecting God’s Grace

Go to clergystuff.com/daily-devotions for devotions on the daily readings.

TALK:  Consider some of these ideas

“Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary.”                                           (Hebrews 9:1)

Jesus‘ saving work took him to death and back; to earth and heaven.  Jesus’ death and resurrection altered the fabric of creation forever.

  • What laws can you think of that have been changed in the last one hundred years?  How has it changed your life, and our society?
  • How did Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection lead us to a new understanding about our relationship to God?
  • How does Jesus change the nature of our relationship to laws, regulations, and so forth?

PRAY:  Saving Lord, you have been to hell and back on our behalf.  Remind us of your unsurpassed love and faithfulness which models the servant life for us, and bids us to follow where you lead.   Amen.

BLESS:  May the God who broke down the walls between us strengthen you today.  Amen.
