Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? — This week at ELC

Devotions for this week: Isaac Born to Sarah – September 14-15, 2019

SHARE:   What was a high point of your day? What was a low point?

READ: Read the following daily readings to deepen your understanding

Monday, Genesis 16:1-16, The Birth of Ishmael

Tuesday, Genesis 17:1-27, God’s Covenant with Abraham

Wednesday, Genesis 21:1-21, The Birth of Isaac

Thursday, Genesis 24:1-67, Marriage of Isaac and Rebekah

Friday, Genesis 25:19-24, The Birth of Esau and Jacob

Saturday, Genesis 2i7:1-46, Isaac Blesses Jacob

Go to clergystuff.com/daily-devotions for devotions on the daily readings.

TALK:  Consider some of these ideas

“Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.”

(Genesis 18:14)

Abraham and Sarah had no idea on this day the God would send a message that would get them laughing—that in their old age, they would have a baby!

  • When was the last time you laughed with a crowd?  How does it feel to share a moment of humor?
  • Do you laugh easily or are you more serious?
  • Sometimes do you feel that God’s promises don’t seem possible?

PRAY:  Joyous God, you made Sarah laugh at your outrageous promise, and you delivered exactly what you said.  Lighten our hearts with anticipation of what you are doing in our lives, and open us to possibilities beyond what we can imagine.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

BLESS:  May the God of surprise delight you each day.  Amen.
